Emergency Furnace Repair in Winnipeg
It's -30 outside and your furnace just stopped. We're on Sargent Ave — call us now.
Call (204) 895-3731When your furnace quits in a Winnipeg winter, you've got maybe a few hours before the temperature inside starts dropping fast. We've been out to houses in St. James where the pipes were already close to freezing. Call (204) 895-3731 and we'll get someone out as soon as we can.
What Happens When You Call Us
You call. We pick up. We ask you what's happening — what the furnace is doing (or not doing), roughly how cold it is in the house, whether you've checked the obvious stuff (thermostat, breaker, filter). Then we figure out when we can get there.
When we arrive, we'll diagnose the problem first and tell you what's wrong and what it'll cost before we touch anything. No surprises on the invoice.
Common Emergency Problems We Fix
Ignitor Failure
Furnace won't light? Probably the ignitor. We carry the common ones on the truck. Usually fixable same visit.
Blower Motor Problems
Heat exchanger fires but no air comes out? Could be the blower. We'll diagnose it on the spot.
Thermostat or Wiring
Sometimes it's not the furnace at all — it's the thermostat or a wiring problem. We check that first.
Heat Exchanger Cracks
This is a safety issue — cracked heat exchanger means CO risk. We'll tell you honestly if repair or replacement is the right call.
Inducer Motor Failure
Modern high-efficiency furnaces depend on the inducer motor. When it fails, everything shuts down for safety.
Control Board Issues
Circuit boards fail. They're more expensive to replace but we can usually source them. If we don't have it, we'll tell you honestly.
What To Do While You Wait
- Check your thermostat — Make sure it's set to "Heat" and the temperature is set higher than the room temperature. Sounds obvious, but it's the first thing to check.
- Check your breaker panel — The furnace breaker can trip. Flip it off and back on once.
- Check the furnace filter — A completely clogged filter can cause the furnace to overheat and shut off. If you have a spare, swap it out.
- Don't mess with the gas line — If you smell gas, get out of the house and call Manitoba Hydro (1-888-624-9376) or 911. Don't touch the furnace.
- Keep interior doors open — Helps spread whatever heat is left through the house.
- Use supplemental heat if you have it — Space heaters can buy you time. Aim them at exterior walls with plumbing.
Pipes Starting to Freeze?
Open cabinet doors under all sinks. Let taps drip slightly — moving water doesn't freeze as fast. If you have space heaters, point them at exterior walls where your pipes run. Call us immediately — frozen pipes that burst are a much bigger problem than a furnace repair.
Furnace Brands We Work On
We work on all major residential furnace brands you'll find in Winnipeg homes: Lennox, Carrier, Goodman, Rheem, York, American Standard, Bryant, Daikin, Napoleon, and most others. If you've got an older unit from a brand that's been discontinued, give us a call — we've been at this long enough that we've seen most of them.

Frequently Asked Questions
How fast can you get to me for emergency furnace repair in Winnipeg?
Depends on where you are and what else we have on. Most times we're on-site within a couple hours. If it's really cold and you've got kids or elderly folks in the house, tell us that — we'll do our best to bump you up.
What does emergency furnace repair cost?
Most emergency repairs run $200–$600. Simple stuff like an ignitor is on the lower end. If it's a blower motor or control board, that's more. We'll give you the price before we do the work — no surprises.
Do you charge extra for after-hours calls?
Emergency calls outside regular hours have a surcharge — usually $75–100. When it's -30 and your heat's out, you don't have a lot of options, so we try to keep it reasonable.
What if my furnace can't be fixed?
If your furnace is done, we'll walk you through your options honestly. We do furnace installations too — sometimes we can get you a new unit same-day or next-day if we have stock. We won't push you into a new furnace if your old one can still be fixed.
I smell something burning from my furnace — is that normal?
A bit of a dusty smell at the start of furnace season is normal — that's just the dust on the heat exchanger burning off. If it smells like burning plastic, rubber, or if you smell gas, turn the furnace off and call us immediately. Gas smell? Get out of the house and call Manitoba Hydro or 911 first.
